Today the Newhall Community Center set up a festive table with cookies, candy canes, and devil’s food cupcakes, They offered steaming coffee and hot chocolate. It was beautifully done, and very thoughtful.
The women who work there went to a lot of work decorating the gymnasium where we play table tennis. They did a lovely job. I thought it was very touching.
I have been making some hearty meals this time of year. Above was a dinner of pork chops and skillet Russet potatoes. The days are short and the dogs and I feel very sleepy early in the evening. I love this time of year.
How are things with you?

Someone took a lot of trouble to decorate the room for the holiday party. Pork chops and skillet potatoes sound delicious.
ReplyDeleteThey did, Cherie. I love their artistic choices! Winter meals are so delicious.
ReplyDeleteHow nice and festive! Nice that they did that! I agree with meals in the winter, as I start to crave a more hearty (and hot) meal! andrea
ReplyDeleteHi Andrea, Yes, it was. Hot meals are so nourishing.
DeleteWe are finding that we want to go to bed earlier during the dark winter nights. The solstice is just a few days away though. Spring will soon be here.
ReplyDeleteYes, I feel the same way, Cherie. The dogs and I are sleepy by 7:00 p.m.
DeleteThe decorations are very festive. Your table tennis team looks like a bunch of champions! Your dinner looks yummy. Black beans with chicken is in my slow cooker right now. With some homemade cornbread it makes a perfect early winter dinner.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds delicious, Anita! Yes, we have some excellent table tennis players in Newhall. It’s fun to practice, and the location is affordable and convenient.
ReplyDeleteStephenie, I've been watching the news and heard about the mudslides in your area. I hope you are OK and your cabin is not impacted. Maybe you were one of the people who heeded the call to evacuate and did so.
ReplyDeleteHi Bless, Thank you for your concern. It was not possible to evacuate. There was water rushing everywhere. My stairs were a river. The main highway into and out of town was completely flooded. I am okay, and my cabin is in good shape. The damage in town is disastrous.
DeleteI was wondering the same thing as Bless, and am glad to read that you are ok. The pictures of the damage in your area were horrific. It must have been frightening to see the mud flowing everywhere.
DeleteThanks, Debbie. I just did a post about it. It was scary. I was trying to figure out where all the water was coming from…there were waterfalls all over my land. My neighbor said it looked like AI.
