A New Kayak and a Visit to the Campground

Yesterday my fold up kayak from Oru arrived.  I was very excited to receive it.  I watched the instructional video, and carefully read the manual.  It has a drawing of a woman and her dog in the kayak.  Reminds me of Lula.  I was able to assemble it in my living room fairly quickly.  It takes a lot of muscle.  My arms were really sore this morning.  I think I will get used to it...I hope.

The design is like origami.  It's quite sophisticated.  I also ordered four solar lights, a paddle,  floaties, and a backpack to carry the boat to and from the water.  Everything seems to be very well made.  I am excited to get out on the lake and start paddling.  It's time to research the best marinas and locations.

I drove up to Table Mountain campground this morning and visited my neighbor.  She had a choice spot  there.  She is able to watch the sunrise in the morning, and enjoy  the sunset at night.  She had everything set up beautifully.  I was very impressed.  Her location actually reminds me of where I live.  I think I like staying in the cabin just as well as I would like sleeping in a camper.  There's something about the comforts of home that I love.  My soft couch, hot water heater, well stocked kitchen, and chaise lounge are all things I would probably miss.  I do enjoy cooking outdoors, though.

I ran into some friends at the lake today.  We chatted for a while.  It's wonderful to be enjoying the sunshine and water again.  Summers in California are so fabulous!  How are you doing?

  1. Sounds like you're all ready for a lovely summer on the lake, etc., Stephenie. I don't think I've ever been in a kayak, myself! Which is probably a good thing because I can't swim! :D

    1. Yes, that's true, Bless. I have been swimming ever day, which I love. The sun warms the water, and it's so energizing to submerge.

  2. A kayak sounds wonderful. I did say we would treat ourselves to one this year but, having spent a small fortune on a new bike for Lily recently, it might need to wait until next year when we will be spending much more time by the sea. X

    1. I understand, Jules. I bought my bike used. A new kayak was a splurge, but I have been wanting one for years. This is the right weight for me. I love the design.

  3. Things are going just fine down my way. Still cool and foggy, but the sun does start breaking through by the afternoon which means summer is almost here. My neighbor takes his kayak out on our lake several times a week, but it is a lightweight plastic looking kayak. I am really unconformable on the water so no small boats for me.

    1. That's great that your neighbor gets so much use out of his kayak, Anita. I didn't realize you were so close to a lake. I am looking forward to exploring all of the best boating places in LA with calm water.

  4. You are going to love that kayak (or at least I can't imagine that you won't). :-) I've never seen one that is folding - how interesting, but probably really nice for transporting and storing.

    1. Yes, Lady Locust. It is. You can also check it through as luggage when traveling. Thanks for the encouragement.

  7. Like Bless, I too cannot swim: 2 drowning incidents as a child. But to be on or next to the water - so magical.

    1. Oh, how sad, ratnamurti. I love being near the water, as well. It's very calming.
