Resting in Retirement

Although many retirees worry about becoming bored in retirement, I have found I have the exact opposite challenge.  I need to schedule time for rest.  Between all of the physical activity I get, playing ping pong, hiking, doing yoga, Pilates, and my Russian conditioning exercises, I can easily become exhausted.

So, I decided to work efficiently, and not overtrain.  That habit brought me under the surgeon’s knife.  My mom used to tell me I was overexercising, and she was right.  It led to osteoarthritis.  Now that my replaced hips have healed, I am limiting the hours that I will push myself,  physically, even if I feel pressured by others.  We only get one body.  Exercise can be addictive.

Spring is here!  I love it when the tulips and daffodils bloom.  The fruit trees have blossoms, too.  It is still chilly enough to sit by the fire, though.

    1. Hi Ratnamurti, I learned them from my Russian ballet teachers. They call it gymnastics, and they use them on dancers, skaters, and Olympic athletes. They are very specific exercises that target certain muscle groups and systems. They work like magic!

  3. Rest is so important as we get older. Our bodies take longer to repair and resting is a good was to help things heal

  4. That’s so true, Cherie. If I have been in a draining situation, going to bed early resolves it.

  5. I love spring as well. Just the shift in sunshine is so energizing to me. Regular activity keeps us healthy but so does getting proper rest.
