Structuring Your Days in Retirement

As you can see, the woodpeckers still have plenty of acorns left in their stockpile.  I love how they prepare for the winter by meticulously  drilling holes in the Jeffrey Pine Trees.  There are still numerous acorns littering the ground, after the fire we experienced up in Wrightwood, California.

Having activities that you enjoy on your calendar makes time pass quickly and enjoyably in retirement.  I found the ping pong practicing I did last week with the robo machine greatly improved my performance at my most recent game.  My teammates noticed!  It’s exciting to improve at something you have a talent for, at any age.  This group of senior ping pong players is very passionate.  They are excellent!  It’s fun to watch.

This group of ladies enjoyed a recent live concert of Scott Joplin’s music with a 1920’s costume theme.  We all belted out the tunes in  the sing along, and jumped up and danced to some of the best songs.  My favorite was “When The Saints Go Marching In.”

What is your weekly schedule like, as far as activities?  Do you attend any groups, play sports, or engage in fitness?  How does it benefit you?

  1. Sounds like you are having a lot of fun, Stephenie. I don't have a lot of activities in my weekly schedule; I think I could do with a bit more structure to my days.

  2. Thanks, Bless. Retirement is nice, because our days aren’t so packed.

  3. You soon will be the Queen of Ping Pong! You and the ladies are very glamorous. My days seem to be full, and I thrive on having as much planned out in advance as possible. 4 mile walk most mornings, a few house chores, tutoring a 2nd grader in reading on Thursday mornings, volunteer docent at 2 historic homes most Saturdays and Sundays, museum board meetings a few times a month. And knitting!!

  5. I love the photo of you and your pals playing ping pong!
I work out every day, I swim, I run, I do yoga and muscle building exercises and, as I don't drive, I walk everywhere. When I have annual health checks I'm told I have the blood pressure, BMI and physique of an athlete, I'm happy with that! x
