Once you have retired, you will have many relationships that make a huge difference in your stress level. If you are staying in your home, you will need a reliable plumber, handyman, tree trimmer, electrician and house painter. If you have developed a rapport with these people over the years, it will make things much easier.
Your car will still need repair, you may need a driver to take you to the airport, and a reliable pet sitter or boarding kennel is essential for dog and cat owners. It can be difficult to find these people in smaller towns. The best are usually booked. If you are already an existing client, and the business owner likes working with you, it makes all the difference.

You are right, we need quite a few experts to keep things running. That would be something to consider before moving out of state or far away. You would need to start from scratch finding experts; I have been in my home for 40 years and enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteThat's true, Terra. It sounds like you have put down happy roots where you are.
DeleteAll very good things to keep in mind when you plan your retirement.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Bless. There are many responsibilities.
DeleteWe have a close group of neighbors in our area, and we happily trade references to tradesmen and services. We often use a lovely lady who has a cash only service to drive people to and from the airport. It is nice to know that there are reliable and trustworthy people out there.
ReplyDeleteThat's great, Anita. My neighbor and I do the same thing. It's always better with a trusted recommendation.
DeleteWe have yet to find a reliable plumber... not enough young people here choose to work in a trade like plumbing. I share some pet caring responsibilites with friends and neighbours, looking after each others cats.
ReplyDeleteI hope you find a good plumber, Christina. That's nice that your neighbors and you take care of each other's pets. I have been a pet sitter for many of the animals in this neighborhood. We used to have a couple of professional animal trainers on our street.
DeleteWe made a list of people we'd need to see when we were considering moving house. Public transport was a big consideration as we might not want/be able to drive as we get older. Dentist and doctors were other considerations
ReplyDeleteYes, those things are all very important, Cherie. I also think noise, traffic, and congestion make a difference.
