This afternoon my package of Nebraska Bison steaks arrived in the mail. They were still frozen solid, and in perfect condition. They are now lined up in the freezer, with one defrosting on the counter for dinner tonight. I baked a couple of small russet potatoes in the toaster oven. I'll make a salad to have with them. Traditional meat and potatoes meals remind me of my childhood. My dad owned cattle, so we ate a lot of quality beef.
Have you ordered anything in bulk lately? We may be in for a stricter lockdown rules in January, here in California.

Bison steak sounds intriguing. Do you cook it like ordinary steak?
ReplyDeleteI don't order in bulk all that much but I do like the principle of 'one in use, one spare' so there's plenty to fell back on. Like you, I'm expecting that we will be back in lockdown after Christmas.
xx
Hi Joy, Yes, except on lower heat. The other night I pan fried one in butter. It was delicious! I have also cooked them on the grill when it's warm outside. My mom always had one spare of everything in her cupboards, too. It really makes a difference to not run out of things.
DeleteGlad to hear that your order of steaks arrived. When I was undergoing chemo, my supervisor at the time sent me a gift of steaks and other items from a company called Omaha Steaks and I remember those steaks were so delicious!
ReplyDeleteI haven't ordered anything in bulk, recently, but, I have most of what I ordered earlier in the year. Even so, it might be a good time to check the supplies and see what else I need!
Hi Bless, Yes! Those are. I have ordered from Omaha Steaks, as well. Sometimes they have good specials. My potatoes are starting to sprout, so I need to make a batch of mashed potatoes, and freeze them.
DeleteHi Stephenie. That sounds like a nice tasty and simple meal. I love nice quality meat and would far rather pay more and have less if it actually tastes of something.
ReplyDeleteHi Cherie, It's excellent quality. It makes me feel secure to have plenty of food during this time.
DeleteMy freezer and store cupboard are bulging not only with Christmas goodies but food for January as I suspect there will be stricter restrictions coming into place.
ReplyDeleteThat's fantastic, mm! I love Christmas goodies. I have some of those, too. Swedish gingersnaps, peppermint bark, and lovely Italian muscato.
DeleteLuckily during our lockdown, I had rolled oats, and red lentils, plus tins of fish, milk powder, and frozen vegetables, so that really helped with food.Lockdown is hard as you know - but it does seem to work.
ReplyDeleteThose are excellent staples, ratnamurti. My citrus trees are loaded with fruit, which helps. I agree about lockdown making a huge difference.
DeleteThis sounds delicious. Does bison taste like buffalo? I had a buffalo burger once. We order flour in bulk but not much else.
ReplyDeleteYes, Christina, it does. I buy flour in bulk, too. I keep it in the freezer because I don't use it very often anymore. It goes straight to my joints. I like to have it, though.
DeleteBison is a very tasty, lean meat. Did you have any while you were in Catalina? We haven't bought anything in bulk, but I agree January will be another month of lockdowns. Just seeing pictures of the crowds at the airports this weekend makes me even more convinced that the cases of COVID will continue to increase.
ReplyDeleteHi Anita, Yes, it is. I may have had it my first night there. I can't remember. I had the turkey meatloaf one lunch. I agree with you. It just sickens me to see so many people traveling. Ugh.
