Billy Elliott

Last night I watched the movie, Billy Elliott.  It was very sweet.  I cried at the end, remembering what it was like to achieve the dream of becoming a professional dancer.  The contrasts in the film were amazing.  I loved the acting.  Dance teachers are such special people.  I know that mine changed my life.

I just finished volunteering for a group here that gives out food to people in need.  We set everything up, and filled boxes and baskets for about fifty people.  They received all kinds of delicious food.  It was very rewarding.  Everyone was so appreciative.

How is your weekend going?

  1. Billy Elliot is one of my favourite films of all time. I love Julie Walters, the actress who played the dance teacher, particularly as she is a local (to us) girl. My GD is a dancer so the film was enjoyed by her too.
What a wonderful thing to do to help hand out food to needy people, Stephanie. Well done. Angie x

    1. Julie Walters was magnificent, Pensive Pensioner! I loved her, too. It was fun helping out with the food donations. The people were mostly low income, just like I was when I was teaching dance and yoga. Many of them have retired. It helps them with their budget, and we gave them some really nice food! I was impressed with what they received.

  2. I haven't watched that movie, but, I agree with you that dance teachers are special. Any teacher, I believe, is special.

That was very caring of you to volunteer with the food give away. I'm sure the food was appreciated.

So far, my weekend has been relaxed. I don't have any plans for today, but, I hope to visit the Japanese garden, tomorrow.

  3. So sad that people need these food banks, my heart goes out to them. Our local supermarket have a collection box for the food bank and it is heartening to see so many donations.

    1. Ours just received a very large donation. I think it really helps people, and makes it easier for them to pay their other bills.

  4. Wow, that must have been an amazing experience, both watching the movie which corresponded so closely with your own career, and also being part of helping others. That is what we are here for!

  5. As you are probably well aware it was nothing but rain, rain, rain yesterday, Saturday. We ran some errands anyway, but I was glad to get home. Today, Sunday, we are meeting our youngest son's in-laws for lunch. They live in Orange County. We get together several times a year. They are very nice people and it is always a nice time.

    1. Hi Anita, We had some snow up at the cabin, but it didn't stick. I'm glad to hear there was more rain. I hope you enjoyed your family luncheon.

  6. I rarely watch films but I have seen Billy Elliot and really enjoyed it, especially the part when Billy explains to the selection panel how he feels when he's dancing. X
