Supporting Small Businesses

It has been heartbreaking to watch the video footage of the rioting and looting that is raging in our country.  I sigh at the destruction and how it will backfire, financially.  Insurance premiums will go through the roof.  They are already sky high due to the fires.  The people who can least afford it will have the hardest time.

Today I read an encouraging story about donations pouring in from all over the world for one  of the business owners of a martial arts studio in Newport Beach.  It is heartwarming to see the support that people are giving to those who have experienced this extreme damage and violent devastation.

I am making arrangements with local tradesmen to have the work needed done on my house.  I am happy that they are still working, and  enjoy writing a check to them for their services.  It makes me feel relieved to know that the money I pay them will help them to buy groceries, gas and supplies.

Today I mopped the floors and fed the plants in the front garden.  I still need to get back to knitting, but have been very busy growing food and cooking.  I will comment on  your blogs soon; I apologize for the delay.

Thank you for your comments.  They add so much talent and energy to the blog.  Please comment in English.  I'm sorry, but comments with links will not be published.  If you enjoy the posts here, please share them.  Comments may take a few days to appear; they are moderated.

  1. I so agree with you! It is so sad. We have so many businesses that won't be reopening - no rioting here, just due to the shutdown for so long. I've been trying to do whatever trading I need locally with non-chain businesses.

    1. Oh, that's too bad, LL. I closed my dance and yoga studio in the last downturn, so I know how they feel. I'm sure the owners appreciate you doing business with them.

Stay safe Stephenie. I hope there’s no unrest in your area.

    1. Thanks, Nil. Yes, hours of cleaning up at the cabin today. It looks so nice now! We have been fortunate, so far. I heard they called in the National Guard in Valencia.

  3. I agree....it makes me feel "useful" to hire someone to do work and earn a living so admirably. Bad things bring out the good in many people, and news stories of volunteers helping fix up destroyed stores touch my heart! Andrea

    1. Those stories inspire me, too, Andrea. I love paying hard working people who excel in their field.

  4. I'm glad you are able to support small businesses. I don't condone the looting and the rioting, either, but, the most heartbreaking video for me was that of the police officer pressing his knee on the neck of a handcuffed man.

    1. Yes, that made me feel ill, Bless. I am glad that people are taping these instances, though, so that those who are abusing their power are arrested and punished. It was tragic.

  5. We too are enjoying buying locally and supporting local business. If we all do our bit then we will be helping our own communities to survive this dreadful situation.

    1. I think so, too, Cherie. Many of our restaurants in Wrightwood were looking busy today. I think people came up for the weekend.
