Tempted To Travel

moon flowers are in bloom

Today I spent some time on tripadvisor reading reviews about  Catalina Island, California.  I have always wanted to go there.  I decided to make arrangements to take a short trip for my birthday.  That way prices will be low.  Right now, they are at their peak.

I researched Mt. Ada, which is the Wrigley mansion.  It looks stupendous!  I would rather stay one night in a charming, historic,  high end hotel than spend several days in a motel.  All year I cook my meals at home. I so  look forward to eating out  a few times in quality restaurants.  I adore fine dining.  The view from the balcony looks unforgettable.  I can't wait!

The town of Avilon seems so quaint.  It reminds me of the Mediterranean.  I had hoped to travel to Spain again this year, but will explore California, instead.  I am so fortunate to live here.  I plan to watch some movies that were filmed in Catalina.  The Youtube videos really get me exited about going.

Do you have any travel plans?  Will you stay local, too?

  1. Your plans sound very exciting - it makes sense to book for when prices are low.
I have no holiday plans for this summer. A week in Southwold, planned for May, has been rescheduled for next year and at the moment the hospitality industry is still pretty much closed because of the virus.
Generally, I prefer to go away in term times as the prices are so much lower. All my life as a teacher, I had to take holidays in school holiday time and now I enjoy going away while the children are at school!

    1. I like to travel off season, too, Joy. It's less crowded, and not too hot. Glad you can travel when you want now!

  2. That is a very good suggestion. Far better to have one wonderful night in a fabulous place than three or four in a mediocre place. We have no plans as yet for holidays and I am expecting another spike as soon as the weather turns cooler. Time will tell

  3. No, Stephenie, we don't plan to go on holiday anywhere at all this year. I think we are still a bit shell shocked from the virus. Your planned trip sounds lovely, I wouldn't risk Spain at the moment.

    1. Thanks, pp. I think I would be happy just relaxing solo at the hotel. They provide golf carts to explore the island. That would be fun. I hope to see more of Spain someday.

  5. Those moonflowers look lovely! And look at all your baby pomegranates!

OK, now you have me singing that song - "Twenty six miles across the sea, Santa Catalina is waiting for me". LOL. My daughter and I wanted to go there, one year, but, we didn't, for one reason or another. No, I don't have any plans to travel; too risky for me!

  7. I looked up Catalina Island on Google. What a beautiful place! You are wise to plan your trip during off peak season.

I don’t have any special travel plans at the moment. I miss it as summer is usually my travel time.
COVID cases are rapidly increasing here, so I don’t want to travel even locally.

  8. We stayed at the Mt Ada Inn a few years ago. That was when it was still owned by USC, but there are new owners now. It was fabulous!! Our room had a balcony that overlooked the sea. And the food was great. They also let you have the use of a golf cart for exploring the island. It was a very memorable trip. We flew the Mooney over. Yes, Catalina does remind me of Capri.

  9. Where I live in New Zealand, we have accepted that travel will be local, ie in NZ, then in time to Australia and Polynesia.... one's own country, state, area always has lots of fantastic places to go to, I feel.

  12. I love to make plans but I won't be travelling anywhere this summer. I have a couple of nights away booked in October and December, so I have those to look forward to at least.
For the time being I will stay close to home. X
