Thank Goodness for the Stockpile

I have not been able to comment on a few of my fellow bloggers' posts.  For some reason, they are showing up as dangerous sites here at the library.  I will be back to comment when I am on a private computer.

One of my dancer friends who was stuck in Europe just made it safely home.  He is self isolating for two weeks.  What a relief it must be for him.

I am very thankful to have my stockpile.  Right now I am at the library, checking out a few movies.  It is so helpful to have plenty of food, coffee, and home entertainment.

How is your stockpile?   I hope you have everything you need.   I made a trip to Costco a few days ago, and restocked all of my staples.  We were still able to pick up our baskets of produce at the co-op, thankfully.

The fruit trees in the backyard have been a Godsend, as well.  Do you have enough food and supplies at home?  I hope so.

Thank you for your comments.  They add so much talent and energy to the blog.  Please comment in English.  I'm sorry, but comments with links will not be published.  If you enjoy the posts here, please share them.  Comments may take a few days to appear; they are moderated.

  1. We are always stocked up just because we shop at Costco...lol
The one near Pittsburgh Pa is out of toilet paper and paper towels. For some reason people are fixated on paper products, and of course hand cleaners. We figure just having rubbing alcohol is good. As for food, that comes from the U.S. and shouldn't be in shortage amounts except what is caused by people hoarding. If anything happens to continue past a year, I would recommend survival foods that are freeze dried and last 20 years to have on hand. Andrea

    1. I have a lot of soap, and plan to make more, Andrea. I bought a box of freeze dried survival food a year or so ago. Thanks for reminding me.

  2. I’m glad your friend is home safely.

I too have a stockpile of food and other supplies. I alway have one, and added a bit more rice because I tend to eat more rice when I’m home. 😊

    1. That's wise, Nil. I love making Mexican rice. I still have half of a huge bag that I bought ages ago. I keep it in the freezer. Maybe I will buy another one, just to be safe.

  3. This dreadful virus is becoming a real worry Stephenie. Thankfully I have plenty of food in my cupboards but it may need to see us through some very hard times. Please stay safe. x

  4. Great that you have a stockpile that you can draw upon should need be, Stephanie. We have a little stockpile too and I've made sure, over time, that I've added to it when specials have come up in stores and by buying in bulk. I added a few extra things, like long-life milk, in past couple of weeks. I also bought a few extra bars of chocolate for a treat if we are here at home for a prolonged period of time. I got extra books from the library too as it's free and perfect for passing time happily at home. Meg:)

    1. I buy what's on sale, too, Meg. That long life milk is an excellent idea. Like you, I also bought extra chocolate. Mine are milk chocolate caramels. Yum! Library books are wonderful. I am doing the same...

  5. It is good to have a store of things, and to know there is fruit in the trees in the garden outside. I have limes and pomegranates and quinces on the tree and ripening nicely now. Will be able to share with neighbours too.

    1. That's great, emw. I give my oranges to my neighbors, too. They appreciate the Meyer lemons, as well. It all helps.

  6. Good to know that you are doing well, Stephenie. I'm glad your dancer friend made it home, safely. I am grateful for my stockpile, too. There are a couple of items I am a bit low on, but, I am hoping to replenish them over the next couple of days. But, I have plenty of rice, canned fish, cat food, etc., and I will be OK. I picked up some fresh produce, today - the store was a scary place with long empty shelves that used to be stocked full just a few days ago!

    1. The pet food is so important, Bless. I'm glad that you are stocking up on fresh produce. We have our wonderful co-op in Wrightwood. Things like pumpkin and winter squash keep well.

  7. We have ample supplies of food and sundries at home. And a thriving salad garden, especially after all the rain of the last 2 weeks! I haven't been to the grocery store in a few weeks so I have not experienced the panic buying which seems to be going on all over. I see you had some snow in Wrightwood and there may be more on the way. Stay warm!

    1. That's wonderful, Anita. This is the first year I haven't planted lettuce. I may go pick up some plants at Green Thumb, if they are still open this week. The stores in this area have been okay when I was there. Costco has really come in handy.

  8. I am glad you are ready if you need to be. Everyday I feel like I need to be at the store buying provisions. It is so silly but I have lots of mouths to feed here and I want to be prepared. Stay safe.

    1. I can see why you feel that way, Mereknits. It's just Lula and I, but I feel better having the cupboards well stocked, too.
