Good Fortune

Yesterday I received a phone call from one of the ladies that runs the country club.  Each year in May they hold a lottery. They draw names to pick the new members.  It's a small place, and very popular with the locals.  My name was picked, and I am now a full fledged member!  I received my key card for the security gate.

This morning I got there early and took a refreshing swim.  I rode my bicycle from the cabin, and parked it at the bike rack near the office.  I packed some beef jerky, fruit and water,  and brought warm hand knit clothes, since the lake is cold and stimulating.  I love the charge our bodies get  from the chilly, fresh water.

I took a short walk on the hiking trail.  The views are exquisite.  I will have to take more photos for you.  I ran out of storage on my ipad again.  It's hard for me to part with my pictures.

I had the lake to myself!  I swam with the tadpoles.  The snow melt feels amazing.  It makes your body tingle.  What a relief to feel so relaxed and one with nature.  There is another nearby lake that just opened.  I was afraid it would be closed, due to the pandemic.  I am still wearing a mask and keeping my distance from others.  I may also buy a kayak and explore the larger lake, too.  It's near a public campsite.  There is so much to enjoy  in these mountains.  I am so happy that I found the cabin.  It has been a calming refuge during many stressful times.

Have you been swimming yet?

  4. How wonderful! congrats! And.... You would love kayaking....if we had known how much fun it is (easy to maneuver, and great sitting right there near the water) we would have never bought a canoe (we bought both...but the canoe really was a waste of money). Andrea

    1. Hi Andrea, I love both, but with my hips I prefer something as light as possible. My friend and I used to take her canoe down the Russian River together as kids. It was a blast! I needed a way to transport the kayak, but now I can use my dad's old car. Glad to hear that you are enjoying yours...

  5. Such a beautiful place to have access to and having it to yourself, too. Wonderful. I imagine the snow melt being really really cold!

Our climate is not ideal for outdoor swimming, at least not for wimps like me. But of course there are many outdoor swimmers here that embrace the refreshing open waters.

    1. Hi Christina, I have been reading about those swimmers, and all of the benefits of cold water swimming. It really supercharges the system.

  6. What a special place. I love the green grass around the water's edge. You are such a wonderful writer Stephenie. I could almost feel the fresh water and nibbling tadpoles.

    1. Thanks, Anita. That is so kind of you to say. The grass is very healthy and well maintained. They brought in sand and made a beach on the other side. It's so fun to watch the kids swimming and jumping off of the diving board.

    1. Thank you, Bridget. I have never been a member at a country club. I will definitely get my money's worth. We belonged to a beach club when I was very little. It was such a treat to walk there and play in the sand and water.
