Simply Delicious Food From The Garden

These are the blood oranges that I have been harvesting. They are such are such a blazing shade of red. They aren't very big, but they sure are flavorful. Fresh oranges taste so much better than the ones that you buy at the grocery store.  I think part of the reason the citrus trees are so loaded with blossoms this year is because I've been using more manure as fertilizer. It works like magic on the soil. The fruit trees are so green right now.

I broke into the new sock yarn, and started another pair of Winwick Mum's Easy Lace Socks. These colors remind me of sherbet. Each night I've been washing out the pink pair that I knit. I've been wearing them every day. They are so light and comfortable. My other hand knit socks are mostly wool These feel totally different, because of the soy silk and cotton blend.  I will make several pair for Summer.

  1. That yarn works up quite well. It is so nice to have a series of non-woolly projects to work on during the months of terrible heat.
You will be comfortable and relaxed, knitting and gliding peacefully on the new chairs this summer.

    1. Hi Jill, It sure is. As you can see, there's plenty of yarn. I think it would make a cute baby sweater, too. Yes, I am loving those chairs!

  4. Blood oranges look delicious.
I noticed some of my citrus trees have flowers, but they are only about 3ft high and still in containers. I don't think they will give me fruits this year.

    1. Who knows? They might, if the blossoms get pollinated. I had a friend in New York who grew an orange tree with a couple of oranges I her apartment!

  5. The colour of those oranges is just gorgeous, Stephenie. I don't have any oranges growing in my garden, we have mandarins instead. Meg:)

    1. Isn't it, Meg? I know. It's really special and bright. How wonderful to enjoy your home grown mandarins. I have a couple of Algerian tangerine trees. The fruit is divine.

  6. The yarn looks beautiful both in the ball and in the sock. Do you always knit a cuff down sock or have you tried toe up? Just curious. I agree about citrus off the tree being so much tastier than citrus from the grocery. Manure and some special love add a lot!

    2. Hi Anita, I made a mistake in my last comment. I LOVE this yarn, the colors amaze me. I usually knit my socks cuff down, but tried toe up on the Scatterby Socks. The pattern is free on Ravelry, and I wrote about it on this blog. I find the toe up socks have a tighter fit.
