Finished Everything On My List

These zinnias are still in bloom in November. I planted them from seed.

Yesterday was a busy day, and by the end of it, I was too tired to post. I felt satisfied, though, because I accomplished everything on my list. I find I do much better if I write things down that need to be done. Crossing each one off keeps me feeling  focused and productive.

After feeding  my squash and pumpkin plants their weekly dose of compost tea, I ran Lula along the bicycle. We do this every morning. I fed the hens their scratch, lettuce, and a hard boiled egg that I had cooked them. They haven't been laying as much; I think it's because the days are getting shorter. They need a certain number of hours of sunlight to lay. Protein helps, sometimes, too.

I deposited a check by mobile deposit. I love that feature. It saves me gas and time. I had a little trouble remembering how to do it, but after a few attempts, I was successful. I don't have a smartphone, so I use my mini ipad. I had forgotten that you have to log in when you get to the app.  There is so much to remember with technology. I am finally getting it, though.  Sometimes it just takes me a while.

The beeswax candle is getting a lot of use.  It smells divine!

I took my car in to be smogged. I had a $25.00 coupon that I used. After that, I stopped at Costco and picked up some milk, soy milk, and sea salt caramels.  I came home, and applied online for a new travel card through the DMV. They will be requiring these in California for domestic travel soon. I have an appointment for the end of the month. I organized the paperwork that I will need to show them: my social security card, passport, and proof of residence. It feels good to get this out of the way. I paid the fee online.  It was $35.00.

This morning I bought some straw and scratch for the chickens, and cleaned out the hen house. I paid my auto registration for the year. I bailed out the tub of bath water from last night and used it to water the front garden. It was a lot of work, and the watering can was heavy. It felt good to use the grey water, though.  Phew! I am very  tired now, and plan to take a rest.  How are you doing?

  2. Hi Rue, I so rarely get everything done on my list. It was a big deal. There is always more to do...The Real ID is something that went into effect after 9/11.

  3. You had a very full day, Stephenie, but it's nice to look back and see the things you set yourself for the day are finished. I write a list in an old exercise book each morning of the things I need to do and I cross them off as I go along. I love the scent and glow of beeswax candles, they are so very beautiful. Meg:)

    1. I love those qualities in the beeswax candles, too, Meg. The color is also so natural and inviting. Crossing things off of the list is very satisfying. Today will have a new list.

  6. Hooray for lists! Especially when all items are completed! My lists tend to be continuous for about a month. Still part of the 9 to 5 crowd--or more realistically 6:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. subset! After including morning and evening exercise sessions and other daily essentials, I tend to consider dusting and vacuuming the apartment twice during the week a decent accomplishment these days! lol Sadly, squeezing in sewing time has become a bit of a luxury most weeks.

Question regarding your tuna & noodle casserole: Can it be made with 2 cups of milk and adjusting the baking time? Or possibly substituting another liquid for the remaining 1/4 cup? I do not drink milk and rarely use it in cooking, so being able to just use a pint of milk and not have to plan how to use the remainder of a quart would simplify life!

    Obviously, not an experimental cook!

    Thanks!

    1. Hi Taja, You sound very disciplined with your exercise. You could substitute water for that 1/4 cup of milk. Or, use the original recipe, which as 3 T flour, 3 T butter, and 2 cups of milk. For that one you add a can of cream of mushroom soup, and stir it into the white sauce. That's how my mom made it.

    2. Thanks,Stephanie! The sodium level in canned soup tends to be a shock to my system, so I'll try water the first time. It's my beverage of choice. Have to remember to buy coffee and other beverages when I have guests.

Not really disciplined about exercise, but I have learned what is necessary to help keep sciatica at bay--at least for now. I still go to the chiropractor and PT monthly and adjust exercise routines as needed.

Technology changes so quickly these days, even when you use apps or software regularly. Unless you are a technology geek, you usually are behind the curve. Think of it as keeping our brains active!

Your home looks so lovely and calm. A real haven from our rather frantic world!

  7. What is smogged? Smog is a cross between smoke and fog in the UK. Love it when a list gets finished.

    1. Hi Tania, Our vehicles have to pass a smog check. It measures the amount of pollution the engine emits. We have a lot of cars on the road in Los Angeles.

  8. No wonder you were tired. It sounds like quite a full day. I pulled out and replaced the last of my zinnias yesterday, replacing them with snapdragons, pansies and violas. I still have summer marigolds in 2 small gardens on each side of the garage which will need to be replaced very soon, but they still look nice from the sidewalk so I will wait a few more days. I am curious what you used for proof of residence-utility bill, property tax bill? I am of 2 minds about the new California ID. Maybe I will just use my passport for TSA. Let us know about the lines at the DMV. I hear they can be challenging.

    1. Hi Anita, I haven't gone to the DMV yet, (my appointment is at the end of this month.) I plan to use either my cell phone bill or property tax bill. I'll blog about it once I get the new ID. I'm excited. Your flowers sound gorgeous. Those are all of my winter favorites.

  9. You are busy! The zinnias are so pretty! We have lots of water here...with rain almost every day. The lakes are very full and lots of little streams and creeks. Delaware had Federally-approved licenses for over a decade. Pennsylvania is just beginning to comply and we have an extension on it. We don't have separate cards for it...just all in our one license. It is very annoying having to get all the documents for it though! Andrea

    1. Thanks Andrea. I love the zinnias. My ID will be my new license, too. Fortunately, I had all of the documents in a folder together. You are fortunate with all of that rain. I hope it's not too much, though. We could really use it here.

  12. bailing bath water out? wow that's keen; why don't you look into having some ag pipe put to your drains that you can move around the vegetable garden? another option is to save up & put in a grey water tank ( i just have a hose that i move) i have bucketed in the past & it's not fun on uneven ground. i also have a rain water tank to water the little chook pen garden down the back.
    your gardens are looking great!
    thanx for sharing

  13. That's a good idea, Selina. Bailing the water was very tiring, and made my hips and back ache. The grey water tank with a hose sounds ideal.

    1. be sure to research it, by the sounds of it you will probably only need a small one (tank) & that's if they are allowed in your area, not all councils like them here but if you know where your drains are you might be able to rig something up even if it's just for the summer.
