I Hope I'm Not Turning Into a Wino

When I visited Catalina Island for my birthday, I enjoyed a glass  of  sweet, sparkling wine out on the verandah at the Wrigley Mansion.  There were a few other guests attending Happy Hour, as well.  We had wine, cheese, crackers, cold cuts and fruit.  I loved chatting with them and enjoying the stunning view of the water.  Travelers are such fun people.

When I arrived home, I decided to buy a bottle of the same wine and recreate the experience.  It really does seem to bring out the flavors of my meal.  I just have a small amount, but do enjoy it by the crackling  fire each evening.

The only problem is, it is upsetting my evening yoga routine.  I think I will have to do that in the afternoon, instead.  It's pretty dark and cold at night, anyway.  Not the most ideal time to be stretching on the floor...

  1. I love wine with a meal. My grandma used to have a glass of red wine each evening. It was about the time they came out and said wine was healthy. I've heard grape juice is just as healthy also. Andrea

    1. I do, too, Andrea. I never appreciated it until now. Something about that Catalina trip sparked my appreciation for it.

  2. I think you deserve that wee bit of wine after a busy day. Glad your car passed inspection, another thing you can cross off your list. Stay well.

  3. Maybe you can incorporate the wine sipping into your yoga routine! On the other hand, afternoon yoga followed by evening wine sipping might be better. :)

    1. I'm still working out a routine, Bless. Yesterday I had the wine with lunch, watched Hello Dolly, and then did Pilates after dinner. It wasn't very cold, though. I put a wool blanket down on the carpet.

  4. I love sparkling wine (dry rather than sweet though) and it is definitely an experience to be enjoyed.

    1. I love it, too, Joy. It's extra special. My favorite right now is Risata. It's a muscato. Glad to hear that you enjoy your sparkling, dry wine.

  5. I tried to do that after returning from a trip to Italy. I duly bought a couple of bottles of wine to take home with me. Sadly without the sun and the holiday spirit it was a complete flop. Glad it wasn't the same for you.

    1. Oh, it's been the opposite, mm. It takes me back...I just love Italy. For me, that was the trip of a lifetime. I buy my Italian wine at Target, though.

  6. A glass of wine to recreate a happy experience can only be good for the soul. Enjoy it! Maybe the time is right for afternoon yoga, Stephenie, during cold dark nights perhaps snuggling down with a wine is the best thing to do!

    1. I think so, too, PP. It's especially festive sitting by the crackling fire, with the antique lamps on low...Time for some Christmas carols, too.

  7. Haha-you sweet thing. You are not a wino! When someone puts as much effort and thought into their meals as you do, wine only makes the enjoyment of eating that much better. We have a small glass of wine with our meals every night. Our crystal is from the 1930-1940 era so the glasses are much smaller than modern ones. Yoga after wine sounds fine to me as well!

    1. Oh, your crystal sounds lovely, Anita. I have been using a tiny glass up at the cabin, too. It's so petite...

  8. Dilemas. My problem is that I get overengrossed in something at nights and then re-awake myself. Am trying so hard to stop this. I don't drink any alcohol but you know your wine routine does sound idyllic and cosy.

    1. It definitely makes me sleepy, ratnamurti. It sounds like you are a night owl. My mom used to get a "second wind" in the evening.

  9. Oh Stephenie I'm chuckling. Perish the though of you becoming a wino. Enjoy that tipple young lady.
