Another Baby Blanket and Cool Evenings

I started a baby blanket today. It's going to be  for my friend's grandson. He is due in October. This is the stroller blanket that I usually crochet for gifts. I had the yarn in my stash. One of the ladies I used to knit with gave me several balls of baby yarn that she didn't need. It's so nice to have a variety of colors and wool available for gifts. It saves me money,  and provides hours of enjoyment. I had forgotten how meditative crocheting is. It really relaxes me.

The Hermiones Socks are coming along well. I completed the gusset today. Now it's smooth sailing. I just need to finish the foot and the toe, and then will do the second sock.  It's a different toe  than I have done in the past. Following the pattern will make me think. Sometimes I like doing patterns I know well, because it is pretty stress-free. I try to keep a balance of challenging projects and easy, simple knits. I still need to finish that Carbeth sweater. Some of the knitters on Ravelry were knitting it in four days. I just can't deal with alpaca when the temperature has been over 100 degrees. I think I'll wait till it's cooler. No wonder I was calling it Carpark.

The evenings have been cooler. I enjoy sitting out on the patio and watching colors of the sky shift and change. Each time I exercise Lula,  I walk by my neighbor's  horses and goats.  It gives a nice feel to our street to have farm animals. So many of the residents have chickens. You can hear the roosters crowing each morning. I love the sound of the hens squawking after they lay their eggs. It's the perfect natural  music to listen to as I drink my morning coffee. How are things with you?

  2. sounds like such a lovely walk,, a mix of country and city, the stroller blanket is beautiful and I really like the socks, you would laugh if you saw the socks I knit, I have always knit and even though my eyesight is beyond pattern reading I still knit socks and mitts, by memory, there are dropped stitches and a few lumps and bumps but it was better than giving up,, thank you for sharing this,

    1. Hi Laurie, That's great that you continue to knit. It can be challenging with eyesight issues. Thanks for reading and commenting.

  3. some nice little projects going there; yeh i have the same problem in the heat too with the sweats (menopause) trying to knit a jumper, we've had warm days here of late which is making my knitting slow down again.
i used to knit a jumper in a month, years ago now, fingers & hands are too stiff to knit fast now, though am guessing at this but i bet knitting a jumper in the round would be heaps quicker which is what i would love to have a go at doing once i finished the 2 i have on the needles.
love farm animals too, most of us around here all have chooks, my next door neighbour has turkeys, darn noisy things they are too! a couple of neighbours have horses & sheep & goats as well.
    lovely post
    thanx for sharing

    1. Hi Selina, Fortunately no sweats, just don't want to have it laying in my lap in this heat. Sounds like you have several farm animals in your neighborhood, as well.

  4. Hi! Such a pretty blue for the baby blanket. You are busy knitting! (I'm a bit lazy about learning to knit right now). I wish we could have chickens here....we couldn't in Delaware either (unless you had an acre or more of land). Andrea

    1. Thanks Andrea. Yes, it's a nice shade, and the yarn is very soft. That's too bad you can't have chickens there. I am on a third acre, but we are zoned for farm animals.

  5. I had to smile about clear sailing after setting the gusset on your socks. I always feel the same way! The baby blanket is lovely and I am sure it will be an appreciated gift. I am feeling the urge to knit a sweater, but I just cannot face it while it is still hot. I am loving the cooler temperatures also. No chickens at our house, but the neighbors on the next block below have 3 that cluck away.

    1. Thanks Cheryl. Several people have commented on the shade of blue. It reminds me of a robin's egg. Enjoy your crafting...
