Yesterday I made a last minute decision to drive to Disneyland in Anaheim, California. A friend of mine posted on social media that he was there, and that there were no lines. I had been wanting to go for ages, so I grabbed Lula and jumped in the car.
On Splash Mountain, the ride operator asked me if I wanted to stay on and ride again! |
I had finished editing my latest article for Dance Magazine a week early. My editor and I were really in sync. It's going to be published early next week. I stopped on the way at the post office and shipped a soap order to Washington. After that, my work for the day was complete.

I spent five hours at Disneyland, and got to go on almost everything! It's a good thing I dressed warmly and brought an umbrella. Lula slept quietly in the car. She's such a relaxed traveler. Disneyland also has a dog kennel! More tomorrow; I have to do yoga. Have you ever been to Disneyland?
Thank you for your comments. They add so much talent and energy to the blog. Please comment in English. I'm sorry, but comments with links will not be published. If you enjoy the posts here, please share them.
Disneyland? Of course! Not only do we live in Southern California-I have sons! We started a tradition when the boys were 6 and 7 years old of combining all of our birthday celebrations (birthdays are Jan, Feb, Mar, Apr) into one big blowout trip to Disneyland. We would spend 2 nights at the Disneyland Hotel (couple of times in the Grand Californian) and 3 days in the parks. We also would splurge and include the Concierge Lounge in the hotel which included breakfast, snacks, and wine/canapes along with a perfect place to watch the fireworks. We did this for 14 straight years. I haven't been back for about 10 years now. I suspect lots has changed and I look forward to seeing your photos. I agree-rainy days were always the best.
ReplyDeleteHi Anita, That sounds like so much fun! I would like to take the train next time. Amtrak stops in Anaheim. It has changed in some ways, but they've taken impeccable care of it.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed seeing your photos....I've never been there (or Disney World which would be closer to me). We used to go to Hershey park early in the season to beat the crowds....it is great to not wait in lines and to be able to stay for a second ride in a row! Sounds like you had a great day and Lula is such a good dog! I love how dogs are happy to sleep so much! I once heard that they need around 14 hours of sleep and that makes them a healthier dog even. Andrea
ReplyDeleteHi Andrea, Lula doesn't like to be left alone for hours at home, but she is happy as a clam in the car. I didn't realize that about dogs. So that's why they nap so much of the day.
DeleteThe very first time I went to Disneyland was in the winter of 1975; I still have the souvenir cup I bought then, which had a bicentennial theme! My daughter was 4 years old when I took her to Disneyland for the first time, and, after that, we used to go every year or every couple of years until she was in middle school. Then, I couldn't take the time away from caring for my mother to take my daughter places. :( But, one of her friends in high school had a parent who worked at Disneyland and they took my daughter with them one year. Then, just this past weekend, on Sunday, my daughter went to Disneyland with two of her friends to celebrate her birthday. She, too, said there were hardly any lines that day. I haven't been to Disneyland in at least 15 years!
ReplyDeleteThat's wonderful, Bless. I hope you get to go again. I appreciated things so much as an adult. It really inspired me. Now is the perfect time, while it isn't crowded.
DeleteHow fun for you, even with a bit of rain! I've only been to Disneyland once, also in winter, and it was Tokyo Disneyland. Everything is exactly the same, apparently, except it's all in Japanese. The same songs but in Japanese, Mini Mouse is in a kimono etc, it's very surreal. I went as an adult with another Australian and when we got to the long snaking lines, the usher would always bring us to the front of the queue and put us in the seats at the front of the ride, like we were VIP's. The other memorable thing was that there were sumo wrestling stars there with mobs of people getting their autographs and photos, but mobbing in a very respectful way, with lots of bowing!
ReplyDeleteI've also recently watched a fascinating recent documentary about Walt Disney's life and the creation of Disneyland. If you find it, it's well worth watching!
That sounds incredible, Pipistrello! How amazing to be treated like royalty that way. I will look for that documentary on Walt Disney. I am just in awe of him.
DeleteI can't wait to hear (and see) more. I love your trip reports. Bobi
ReplyDeleteThanks Bobi. I didn't take that many photos, but I will write more about the trip today. It was such a fun one. I am still buzzing with energy....
DeleteI've never been to Disneyland. Actually I've been to CA only once, for a conference in San Diego.
ReplyDeleteI've been to Epcot at Disney World once, but I'm not a big fan of theme parks. They are too crowded. :) It's great you went on a less busy day.
Yesterday I watched Saving Mr. Banks, it's a movie about Walt Disney & Mary Poppins author P.L. Travers. There's also a documentary about Walt Disney on Netflix. It's called Walt Before Mickey. I enjoyed both.
Congratulations on your latest article, Stephenie.
Hi Nil, I feel the same way about crowds. That's why I like going when it's empty. It's a completely different experience. Those films sound excellent! Thank you for the congratulations. I am very excited about this one.
