Thyme Tea

Recently I have been experiencing some symptoms of a slight sinus infection. My left nostril was burning, and I was getting almost daily nosebleeds. It seemed like it might be some sort of allergy. Because of the pollen in the air, I wondered if it was hay fever. I did some research online, after starting to get nervous about the frequency of the nosebleeds.

Once I had  read about these natural remedies, I decided to try them. I would use what I have in my home and garden. I brewed a cup of fresh thyme tea. It fights infection,  I also chopped up a clove of fresh garlic, and swallowed the pieces, like a pill. Raw garlic has always had a miraculous effect on my system. It's instant.

I felt an immediate sense of relief. It was amazing! My body has always been extremely responsive to herbs. I find them so comforting and elevating. I even made a mug of lavender tea, and poured it into the bathtub. I soaked in the water for about twenty minutes, allowing the nurturing, fragrant water to seep into my skin. The scent was soothing and  intoxicating.

Once in my pajamas, I felt like I had taken some sort of relaxation pill. As I laid on the couch, reading a book, my whole body felt very peaceful and receptive to healing. I felt a renewed sense of  spirituality and appreciation. My life force energy was buzzing. I mused at the power of Mother Nature.

I haven't had any more nosebleeds, and the burning sensation in my left nostril has stopped. I didn't have to see a doctor, who probably would have prescribed an antibiotic. Now I know what to do at this time of the year, when the air is dry. Do you use any herbs to treat common ailments?

    1. They are, Andrea. They don't take up much space, either. I need to make them more of a habit. They have so many benefits.

  2. I'm happy to hear that you are feeling well now Stephenie.
When I have symptoms of a cold, I make coriander and ginger tea. I learned it from my mom.
I also love mint tea. I haven't had thyme tea, so I'm going to make it soon. 😊

    1. Hi Nil, I love mint tea, too. I use coriander and ginger in my morning espresso with milk. It also helped to swab some neosporin inside the nostril with a q-tip.

  3. I have terrible sinus problems when we change from summer to autumn. I don't know what causes it but I use a saline wash to get some relief. I'll have to try lavender.

    1. Hi Tania, The lavender was more for relaxation. The saline solution your using sounds healing. Some people recommend sleeping with the windows closed, too.

  4. Ah I love teas and herbs. Chamomile for relaxing, peppermint for digestion, fennel, nettle, peppermint and fennel.

I also love essential opils for a myriad of things. Both the oils and the purposeful action of either diffusing or applying them is helpful in itself. Im so glad to hear your feeling better. I also put paw paw around nostrils for blood noses. Nosebleeds are common here due to our dry climate. Especially in Summer.

  5. As you can imagine I am a huge fan of lavender. It is so relaxing and calming. I have large sachets of lavender that I keep in my luggage. When I was traveling all the time, opening my suitcase in lonely hotel rooms always made me think of home. Our house always has a faint smell of lavender in every room. I will have to try thyme tea the next time I am under the weather. Glad you are feeling better!

  8. I love picking bunches of lavender from the garden and breathing in that beautiful scent. It's so calming. I also love good old common garden mint. It is refeshing, uplifting and cleansing. It think the dry air would be a factor in your nose bleeds, Stephenie. Our son suffered ongoing nose bleeds last year and the specialist explained to us that the blood vessels inside the nose contract and can "crack" when temperate drops and when air is very dry. Hope these have stopped for you now. MegXx

  9. Hi Stephenie, I am so pleased I have found your blog through Nil.I love to drink herbal teas as well, but hadn't tried thyme, one of my favourite herbs to cook with. I can grow ginger well in my garden so I often use that, unfortunately lavender doesn't grow well here but I love it.Thanks for the new ideas. Pauline
