the apricots are ripening |
We discussed how planes have really changed. You used to have so much space in the old days. I remember having a whole row of seats to myself when I was young, and laying down and sleeping. Not anymore. Every seat is now filled.
I was on a plane every week when I toured the USA as a dancer with National Tours. Those were shorter flights, and the crew delivered our steamer trunks and suitcases for us. That makes all of the difference.
Since being in Italy, I have been reexamining my choices of food and clothing. I was so impressed with the meals, coffee, and style in Italy. The quality was impeccable. They take so much pride in all that they do.
The older I get, the more drawn I am to neutral colors in my wardrobe. I am also going through my closet, and deciding if what I have is still age appropriate. How about you?

Wouldn’t it be nice if we could teleport ourselves without having to travel by plane? 😁
ReplyDeleteRarely I get an upgrade to business class on international flights and the legroom is so much better. But I can’t afford it unless it’s a free upgrade.
Yes, that would be ideal, Nil. I love the comfort of a ship, or a sleeper car on a train.
DeleteGorgeous apricots......
ReplyDeleteWhat I wear, seems to be gray pants and white shirts. Which is pretty boring. ,-) I have long skirts, which I love, but they do not look good on me.
Remember that I am 82! :-)))) One view, for older women, is go for simplicity... Simple colors... Etc.
Then there is Iris Apfel, who says.... More color! More jewelry! -grin-
I do have round, black glass frames, though.
In the long run, it is probably a personal choice... Wear what each person feels comfortable wearing. And you have the figure and posture, to wear anything well!!!!
Thanks wisps. I love the color of those apricots. They will be ready to pick very soon.
DeleteAre those apricots from your yard? They look perfect. I am so happy to be retired and not to be traveling 3 weeks out of every 5. Even through all my contracts specified business or first class air for flights over 3 hours (I would work on the plane), air travel has just become such an unpleasant experience overall. Just a few trips a year, strictly for fun, is what I want now. And I am still burning through earned miles on 2 airlines. How wonderful to spend an afternoon knitting with a friend. Happy memories of meeting you and doing that very thing!!!
ReplyDeleteHi Anita, Yes, they are. I fed them more compost this year, and with the rain, the harvest looks excellent. I enjoy traveling for pleasure now, too. Hope we can knit together again soon.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful apricots! What wonderful memories you have. So true about clothes and the time does come for changing our style! I fluctuate between colors and black! Andrea
ReplyDeleteThanks Andrea. I love the color. They are almost ready to pick. It sounds like you have found your own style.
DeleteThose apricots look perfect! I'm sure they'll be delicious, too! I'm glad you were able to spend some time knitting and crocheting with a friend. It's been awhile since I last flew long distances.
ReplyDeleteI just received two bags full of clothes from my aunt (my cousins were decluttering their mother's closet). I will be going through them and trying them on to see if they fit, etc. I dressed fairly casually even when I was working, but, now that I am retired, it's mostly black pants and blouses/sweaters when it is cold and skirts and blouses or dresses when it is hot. For very formal occasions, such as weddings, I wear saris, which are always age appropriate, no matter what your age, and usually, quite vibrantly colored! I do have a white sari to wear to temple and Buddhist funerals (white is our color for mourning).
Thanks Bless. They are small but gorgeous! The color is so bright. I hope the clothes from your mom fit you. I just donated a bag of clothes to the Salvation Army today.
DeleteOh you lucky thing. I love fresh apricots and have just bought a little tub of them for a treat. In truth I love any seasonal fruit but I bet they are so much nicer eaten fresh from the tree and still warm from the sun. I haven't flown in years as we prefer coach holidays now. We get to see all the stunning scenery on the journey
ReplyDeleteHi Cherie, Yes, I am really looking forward to eating them. They are delicious stewed, too. I love to travel by train, as well.
ReplyDeleteI have just made apricot jam. Indeed times have changed with travel, everywhere seems to be fully booked these days...maximum profit I presume and lower costs.
ReplyDeleteOh, yum, mamasmercantile. Yes, the flights can be very reasonably priced, but there is a trade off. Still, to me, it's worth it.
Deletemmm, age appropriate clothing, haven't had to as now i totally wear for comfort & look like a dag lol though i have noticed that my favourite colour (purples) makes me look very old & doesn't really suit my skin colour... but i really love the colour! i don't wear 'tight' clothing anymore, it just looks ridiculous. i think if it's still comfortable, it should still be worn, after all we are all trying to 'waste not, want not' again these days.
ReplyDeleteanyway good luck with the clothes sorting
thanx for sharing
I love purple, too, selina. I don't wear tight clothing much anymore, either. These days I am veering towards sun dresses and shawls.
ReplyDeleteI have a love/hate relationship with flying. I have the same anxieties, but at the same time find it breathtaking to take off and land.
